OPEN ENROLLMENT

Open Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year begins in February 2021. At that time, interested families are invited to apply online or by completing a paper application. Paper applications will be available in our school main office. MESA is a free, public charter school that is available to all children who reside in the city of Milwaukee. We do not screen applications for consideration for enrollment including for social, academic or special education issues. We use a lottery system to select scholars for enrollment. We recognize sibling preference (if an applicant applies for enrollment that has a sibling already attending that applicant will be given preference over other applications for the respected grade).

APPLYING
Applications can be picked up or filled out online beginning February 1st and must be submitted between February 1st and February 28th. Applications will be accepted after February 28th, but the child will either be added to the waiting list or assigned an open seat, after the lottery if a seat is available at that time.
A completed application includes:
-
Application (must be completely filled out with accurate information)
-
Immunization records
-
Copy of Birth Certificate (K4/K5)
-
Note: All K4 applicants must be 4 years old by September 1.
THE LOTTERY/WAITING LIST

MESA is a unique charter school with limited seats. As a result, there is a chance that we will not have enough seats to enroll every applicant who applies. In order to fairly give every applicant a chance to be admitted we use a lottery system when the number of applications received exceed the number of available seats we have for the respected grades (returning students are given priority by completing annual intent to return forms). To fill the limited seats each applicant is assigned a number. The numbers are entered into a lottery and drawn to determine who will be offered available seats. After the seats are filled the lottery will continue and the remaining students will be put on the waiting list in the order that their numbers are drawn during the lottery. Parents will be contacted by the office after the lottery and informed of their enrollment status.
